April 1, 2011 – Dota Team
Dear Dota Community,
I am sorry to inform you that I have been assigned the heavy duty of informing the community of DOTA 2’s release date delay. We here at Valve are really sorry for this outcome as we respect the Dota Community and understand that this must come as a shock to you all but be assured that we tried everything possible to avoid this delay. Yet, that proved impossible due to the complexity of the game, the high end graphic interface, the Steam server updates and the quality product we want to deliver from day one to you. We would like to inform you that the new release date for DOTA 2 has been set to midyear 2012.
Furthermore, regarding the incident with the misleading post at our official Facebook and Twitter page, as most of you understood it was due to a human error. Two employees were communicating through the company e-mail system and accidentally slipped some information through the announcement system while prepairing todays news. They would like to personally apologize for the temportary joy that this post might have brought to you.
We are sorry for not being able to elaborate more on specific reasons for this at this time. We wish for your understanding and patience.
