DotA vs DOTA 2

Postby Two » 11 Feb 2011, 13:54

I will be making a series of threads for discussing how DOTA 2 will affect / interact with other existing MOBA games.

So, let's start with the original DotA game. My opinion is that if DOTA 2 manage to preserve a 1:1 content update with DotA and if it is at least as good as we hope then everyone will start moving to DOTA 2 sooner or later and the huge community will shift platform..

Well what I really hope to see in DotA 2 is the same laneing type, unlike the way they made in LoL I want the amount of gold of creep kills, neutrals, to be the same just make DotA 2 really DotA and not lik what they did on LoL

Yeah, fair enough!

I too want to see a game as close to DotA as possible. I don't want to see any new weird gameplay additions or changes like LoL did. I believe that Icefrog knows this very well and he will not risk trying to add something that the community has shown negative feelings for.

So, the way I see it you'd like DOTA 2 to be more or less the same game on a better engine eh? No gameplay changes?

exactly, DOTA 2 should be really DOTA just New. That's the best I can explain it really.
Same amount of gold on hero kills aswell.

Yes I see your point.

Have you played HoN enough? Did you like it? A lot of people seem to want Dota 2 to be like HoN, only sticking to the heroes of Dota 2 and having Icefrog on the wheel. What do you think?

Exactly, I totally aggree with you on that. HoN, is like half-way of good gameplay. But just not as good as DotA yet. But hopefully icefrog will suprise us bits by bits :)

I hope that also. Just some better graphics, the new hero models will also be ok i think :]
i also played HoN for a while (beta phase) all in one it was OK but it was 2 freaky for me, i mean just 2 many colours etc.
DotA 2 will be good i think. let's hope :]

I hope that DOTA 2 won't make the original DotA a abandoned map in Warcraft 3,Just hope that it will make DotA a living legend (now its really is),Hope that it will terminate DotA's unrestpectful clones but not DotA itself.
IF its education its like I am purge then dececrified, If its food I am like I am having Boots of speed,If Its DotA then its like I cheated on 6 Boots of travel.

I don't see that there is much need in comparing DotA and DotA2, it has already been stated by valve that they want to keep the game as close to the original as possible, so I think discussing possible changes in gameplay features is a bit redundant.

However, there will be new model art, they can't just use the same models because of copyright, so I am hoping for some epic models and spell animations (not too flashy of course). Maybe a new interface for picking heroes, something that's easier for new players than trying to find which tavern their hero is in, perhaps even a search box to type in the name of your hero so you don't even have to find it :)

DotA probably won't be abandoned. Take a look at Counter Strike 1.6 (and some other examples); when CS: Source came out, of course a big chunk of CS1.6 players moved to it, but certainly not enough to desert CS1.6.

It really depends whether the community will embrace it as the sequel of Dota or not. It is up to Valve and Icefrog wheather this huge community will consider the new platform. We will see.

well the map has increased the life span of war3 for damn...9 years , so if it only lasts 3-5 years more I won't mind , it survived long enough to create a new genre of games and that's saying alot
