LoL vs DOTA 2

I read many players talking about what will happen to League of Legends Comunity when Dota 2 appears, some players will switch of course it happens in every game, but I don´t think most players in LoL are just waiting for Dota 2 to come out.

I play both Dota and LoL and they not simply copy&paste one of each other or as someone said "mimic". I think both games have similar features but they don´t focus on the same things. For example LoL gives a more friendly playstyle (no denies, no lossing gold when dying...) while in Dota everything is more serious. On the one hand sometimes in LoL you wish things would complicate a bit more while in Dota you wish you could let your guard down for a bit.

Their jungles are completly different, in LoL there are special buffs that help dps or mages and in Dota you can pull your creeps.

I have to say I like runes and talents system in LoL, it makes a small difference between average players and new ones. While at the same time you can focus on the particular role you will probably have in the next game.

Overall, I enjoy something in LoL much more than in Dota and probably in Dota 2, this is that the creeps are not pure gold machines. In LoL it is more rewarded killing other players rather than farming a huge mass of creeps.

This is my point of view, I have been long time playing both games and I don´t like comparing them because they are similar but focus on different things. I know Dota 2 has to be much better than LoL because Valve simply cannot be compared with Riot.

Same here. Although I've probably been playing League of Legends for a long time. And that was because things are slowly going downhill in the game.
When/If I get my DOTA 2 key, I'll no doubt leave League of Legends behind!

i am an avid league player and by that i mean i have played almost 2000 games and the only reason i don't just keep playing league and just ignore dota 2 is that is seems like it gives a whole new level of game play with the deny system and the unique items that they have league will forever be one of my favorite games but i think dota 2 will be better i just hope that dotas community is as good as leagues

I'm almost sure that I won't ever play LoL again after DotA 2 comes out.
When LoL came out; I couldn't bother less; I kept playing DotA. When LoL became "famous", I still kept playing DotA. Then, all my friends (that don't own War3 nor felt like starting to play/learning DotA) started playing LoL and told me to go play with them...

I didn't really wanted to go... But I went to play with friends. After a while I stopped playing DotA; but not because I prefered LoL, but because two reasons:

- I "can" only play X hours of DotA/LoL a day, and if friends want to play (which was always the case) I play with them; so no remaining time for DotA.
- After lots of games, I got too used to some nice improvements that LoL has over DotA due to it being its own game, not limited by the editor. Mostly some shortcuts and keys, the easy way to join a game. Also, I started finding annoying to look for the MiniMap in the wrong places when going from one game to the other...

So I ended up playing only LoL. Now, 650 victories later, (around 1.100 games I believe) I stopped playing LoL since DotA 2 International (some weeks later). I wasn't playing it that much anymore anyway when I stopped, and I feel my "RAGE" when playing LoL is less healthy than the one from playing DotA; due to some game-mechanics that make the "obviously-lost" go faster, and being countered with the "What a great game!" you get by time to time in DotA, while on LoL is 90% of the time "OMG THEY HAVE MORE KILLS! SURRENDER AT 20!"... Seriously...

About the LoL vs DotA 2...I think both have a place in the world. They are different enough. It's not like DotA 2 is just "LoL Better". Is different. And the same way you have people playing 1 Shooter or other, 1 RPG or other, you will have people playing an ARTS/MOBA/DOTA/Whatever or the other.
However I think that LoL will certainly suffer some loses; but I would personaly be more worried about HoN; because apart from the newest heroes (I personally don't know any of them) is just a DotA copy; and this time the "DotA 2 is just a better-HoN" cames closer to a real stament.

just tried LoL enjoying it so far.. i thought it sucked and sticked to DotA but when i got a new laptop and tried LoL it's so much easier than DotA because i think it's more casual.. and DotA 2 is more on the hardcore gaming side i guess

Lol is that kind of game that you play and you don't really have to stick with in order to get better whereas Dota's skill cap is way higher and you need much more training.

Other reason is because the idea of being able to improve your spells without having a cap top it but your inventory slots. Spamming items makes your abilities more powerful whereas in Dota the cap is usually the Aghanim, because of this in LoL carries aren't very well defined you could carry with almost any hero you want whereas in Dota feeding a support isn't too much of a pain.

After playing both games I can say that Dota requires much more skill positioning and item knowledge and LoL is pretty much spam fest the player who uses the abilities faster wins that is why a competitive level of LoL is not possible.

Hello mates,

The game that introduced me into the genre is HoN (I was really busy pvping in WoW when people were playing Dota). I'm playing HoN in and out since it was in beta. What attracted me to HoN was its graphics but the problem is that HoN is just that. I hate it's champs, those characters are so poorly created and this game is so unbalanced makes me wanna smash things with RAGE!

I have like 6-7 friends that they had no interest in ARTS(MOBA) games but recently started playing LoL. For them LoL is more attractive, because, it's more "casual". After getting fed with the unbalanced champions and the worst community i've seen im my gaming "career" on HoN I started playing LoL with my buddies.

LoL has the worst graphics i've ever seen (they aren't childish, they just have an art direction that I dislike), but this is just me, I just want the graphics to be as good as the gameplay. Thing is tho, that LoL (if played with friends) can be quite fun. Never played a single match alone. What I hate in LoL tho, aren't the graphics but the stupid spells that look so poorly desinged. I don't feel excited at all when casting spells on LoL.

Saying that LoL is for kids, is just wrong. Me and my buddies are 27 y.o. and saying that a game is for kids or whatnot is just wrong. Since when gaming has anything to do with age? o.O

From my perspective LoL is going to lose some players when Dota 2 comes out (it's losing me, thats fo sho). I don't see ppl like my buddies wanting to go to something "hardcore". They just don't feel like it. They play LoL for what it is and for them it's perfect. Im sure there are lots of ppl out there like my buddies. Also don't forget that not everybody has a computer that can handle Dota 2 or HoN for that matter. LoL can be played on the worst computer out there.

What LoL must be afraid of, is Blizzard DOTA! Blizzard offers some unique ideas and a different view of the genre. Latest Blizzcon got me hooked, waiting for Blizzard DOTA and as a long time Blizzard fan, I know that this is probably the game I want. More "casual", free to play (even tho I own starcraft so this isn't the case for me) and with awesome heroes. Don't get me wrong, I know most of you here are die hard Dota fans, but people must understand that there are lots of ppl that work and they play games to have fun and not to rage! I got life for that, thanks.

Sadly, I don't have access to Dota 2 yet, but from what i've seen, Dota 2 right now, is the real deal.
Amazing character design, awesome spells and a perfect art direction over all (for my personal taste that is). Just can't wait to stop playing both HoN and LoL once and for all since Dota 2 beta comes to my account.

tl;dr - LoL must be afraid of Blizzard DOTA and not Dota 2. I hope HoN will die and Dota 2 will rise like it deserves .

I'm one of those people who are like your buddies, Cheez
I love LoL for what it is but at the same time I want to play, and are really excited to play Dota 2 when it arrives. I'll even play Blizzard dota when it comes out.
I like to have choices since it gives variety. I personally don't want any of the moba games either existing presently or those released in the future to disappear in any way shape or form. They all have room to co-exist and players will pick whatever suits them the most. I know I'll continue to play LoL as well as play Dota 2
Idk where I'm going with this. Anyway GL HF

OK, I have played LoL, Dota 2 and HoN and i can say that hon is the worst game of those three. I dont like the too much flashy spells in hon and also the graphics sux.

About Dota 2 vs LoL its rly not that simple to compare those 2 games so i will say what i dont like about Dota 2 as this is a dota forum and i see that most of u have played 1-2 games in LoL and u think that u know all about this game, which makes some comments here VERY FUNNY :D

First of all u need to understand that LoL is not as some1 said "for kids and noobs" cuz in dota u can see as much noobs as u see in LoL. League of Legends (especially the new mode Dominion) promotes more PvP play and not so much constant creep farming which is the main reason i like it. I like also that u have masteries (like talents in WoW) and runes and also 2 extra spells that u can chose on each champion. I like also that u dont lose money when u die and that u have teleport to ur base at all times!

so in Dota 2 I dont like :

1. The so many unbalanced heroes and the BIG GAPS that can occure when some hero is just a little more fed than u and then u can never stop him again ... even with teamplay

2. the ranges heroes have very big advantage in the early game and the creep deny promotes a defensive gameplay which is not in my style ...

3. the fog of war ... wtf when i am in the river its like in a tunnel .........

4. the poor jungle ... whoever played LoL knows what i mean

5. dont like losing gold when i die and so little gold from hero kills ...........

well wow, i have a lot to say here. I'm a player who played DotA, moved to LoL, and just recently got into the DotA 2 beta... I'm also slightly infamous on the LoL forums. -.-;

As for LoL vs DotA 2, well, here's my opinion..

Absolutely nothing is going to happen to LoL, its different enough from Dota in its own right, and dota2 is basically a port of Dota+Matchmaking at this point.

I just don't think the two games will be fighting over the same users, LoL is intentionally marketed to more casual players (Though it has a VERY solid hardcore group that plays and loves it), DotA2 is obviously marketed to the more 'hardcore' group of gamers.

I don't know, for some reason i just find the two games very hard to compare, its like Call of Duty and Halo, yeah they're both FPS, but they're not that similar

I dont think LoL will lose much of its player base since this is like comparing a apple to a orange.
They both are fruits (MOBA)
They both have similare shapes (Basic mechanics, like creeps, items and lanes)
That is where the comparison ends, they are both very different games with different play styles.

But LoL will lose some of the "high end" players, wich in my case (im not that good but i do think i am a decent player) i FEAR every time i dont play a 5 party team that we will get so kind of very bad player (attitude, skill and more often both :? )wich will insta lock and feed

Also what makes me "rage" is the new champs not being that intersting because of this :
http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/sho ... p?t=293417
To wich i understand but they take the wrong way since adding a new hero every 2 weeks expodentialy increase that "burden of knowledge".

So basicly LoL will survive with no major hinderance to there play base, but will lose a big majorety of "hard core" players that got scared of DotA and HoN horrible thrash talking community, but LoL is not very far behind.

I find the champions aren't as diverse in LoL as they are in DOTA.

I'm level 30 in LoL and I feel like I've exhausted all champion play styles now.

I've downloaded LoL yesterday, played a few games, this is what i can say about it now:

Its a complete different game, don't compare it with DotA.

Lol imo, its like an RPG mixed with strategy game, you have to lvl up to get better things, boosts, and champions, that doesen't shows if you are good because you are lvl 50 against a lvl 4. You realy can pick whatever you want, nobody is going to tell you it's wrong the champion you picked, you can even pick the same guy in both teams!!

It's really different, simpler, items are imba as the abilities.

I prefer dota, it's much harder, your ability to play is what makes you good or not, not if you have a better champion or ability earned by your lvl or money spent.

I honestly believe that the DotA, HoN and LoL argument is just the same as the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii argument. Each of them have their games, each of them have their downfalls and each of them have their player base. It all comes to what you enjoy the most. All the "omg u suc retard u don't ply lol u baddie" and the "stop playing ez game dota's better" attitudes are just misrepresenting the good people. LoL's community is far worse only because of the fact it's currently F2P while DotA is still locked out to many players. When DotA gets to scale with LoL it too will see the horrible community that's already plagued LoL.

I vote LoL mainly because I've played it for longer and have become more adjusted to the mechanics of it. The attitude about DotA being the more skilled game is also very annoying and needs to be put to bed. While DotA is very punishing to people who don't play properly and overextend, requiring people to be far more careful and understanding their hero's limitations, League still has a huge skill difference. I'm willing to bet a lot of people haven't seen the high ELO side of league. I was at ~1800/1850 ELO at my peak and playing games was far from unskilled or "basic". The skill deviation in LoL is far higher than DotA. You have the extremely new and unskilled players that ask you "how to move your champion", as well as the very skilled 2000+ ELO players. DotA has a lower skill deviation because those extremely new and "average" LoL players are instantly weeded out. However, I stand firm to say that anywhere beyond 1550 or 1600, many DotA players would be overwhelmed by how hard it actually is to do well. People at those ELO's are a lot more respectful and take care to execute strategies carefully. Turrets are easily defended in high ELO and although there isn't denying, there is zoning to prevent farm and push them out of range (so even if there was denying, they couldn't do it, i.e. Zed mid vs Maokai). I still play DotA, and it's a great game to go into when I finished plaing LoL for the day.

They're both great games and I enjoy LoL just because I've played it more - Although I've argued about which is better to me I still believe that you play the game you enjoy and leave the other communities to be (I've defended LoL simply because a few posts here are quite antagonizing without merit).
