Too many champions?

Postby Zero » 17 Nov 2011, 15:30

Does anyone else feel like LOL is steadily declining due to the fact that they pump out champions. It seems like every two weeks we get another champions with a combination of 4 spells (which seem to never be unique) Do you guys think its for the better or is it worse? I personally would rather see new game modes like dota had, i.e. all random or death match.

I feel that way too.
I don't think they have too many. But they are releasing them a little too fast lately.
When I saw the gameplay mechanics for Graves, I was pretty disappointed. His gameplay is boring and unoriginal.
The more recent champion, Fizz, is fun to play, but I also think he's just an ability power version of Wukong.
All in all, League of Legends' champions are not getting any better or worse. They're just not really getting anywhere.

Personally I have the hypothesis that they want to have more than 100 Heroes (or close enough) for when Dota 2 comes out. Its an easy number to compare; and you can get some people just by telling them that Dota 2 has 105 heroes and LoL has 60.
But if LoL increases that number to 90 is not that big of a difference; and if they even get 106+ they can even claim to have more heroes in their game.

Thats what I think. Also, LoL population gets bored so they need new heroes.
And... most important (probably the key-piece) is that LoL is Free-to-Play, which means they only win money from people paying for Riot Points, and those are used by people who want to rush shopping the newest heroes and get a week of "free-owning" people that don't even know what skills that new hero has, since they came out so fast you can't even learn the previous one before a new one comes out. XD
If they didn't realese them so far; everyone that has already bought all the heroes/runes he wanted would had 6.300 points for getting is without paying; even if playing only casually.

I played a lot of LoL (because friends started playing it mind you; I would have remained really happy playing DotA); and to be honest I kinda only had fun with a couple of heroes (mostly Anivia).
However, I kept playing -AR > -SD > -RD (in that order of preference, and randoming if I ever ended up in an -AP) in Dota, and I LOVE 90 of the current 104 heroes (and I haven't played the latest 4). And the missing 10... I just happen to LIKE them, instead of LOVING. XD

HoN was doing the same thing a few months earlier but the people asked them to stop this because it was hard for players to learn a hero when a new one was already out...I hope you know what I mean...Now they release a hero every 3 or 4 or even 5 weeks!

I like the large amount of heroes more options and a better chance to find the hero that fits you best. Only thing I don't like is when they pump out someone who is to similar to a hero that is already out.

I can generally learn a new Champion in LoL/Hero in HoN/DotA--And DotA 2 now that I've gotten in-- in the first few games I play them. It doesn't really take me all that long. I never had the problem of 'too fast too many', and I can appreciate the differences that each champ offers. Really, I think they're doing just fine, and the numbers show it too, considering how much money they're making. You can rant against it all you want, but profits don't lie.
