Hon Free-2-Play*

Postby L0rdSt3v3 » 29 Jul 2011, 12:36

Hon went free to play 10 minutes ago.

Patch Notes here:
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showt ... p?t=305585

Everyone who had a Account until now has a legacy Account which means you get all Heroes for free. Still people can buy early access. Monkey King will be released in a Month, but you could pay 275 coins to get him now.

Here is a faq:

What are you thinking about this?

Good news Hon players.
Warcraft III-Inspired Heroes of Newerth Goes Free-To-Play
Multiplayer, action role-playing game Heroes of Newerth is now free-to-play, with developer reorganizing the Warcraft III Defense of the Ancients inspired game to include three types of accounts, developer S2 Games tells Kotaku.

The new basic account is a free account new players receive when they sign up. Once a player has surpassed a certain threshold of play time, or purchase Goblin Coins, their account is upgraded to a Verified account. Players who were already paid users will have Legacy accounts. Legacy accounts receive a lifetime of free access to all HoN heroes and are able to play in Verified Only games, to ensure that experts and beginners are separated. Legacy accounts can no longer be purchased.
Basic and verified accounts will have access to a rotating pool of 15 free heroes. Both accounts can also purchase a new heros when they come out.

"With the transition to free-to-play we're opening HoN up to new audiences as our players can now easily introduce the game to their friends," said S2 Games CEO and co-founder Marc DeForest. "S2 has a serious level of commitment to our players to continuously improve both the game and their experience. With the new account types and match-making standards in place, both novice and existing players will benefit from the upgraded structure."

In Heroes of Newerth, and other DOTA games, players are split into two teams that start a match on opposite sides of a map. The map includes a number of paths leading from one side to the other. The object of the game is to take out the opposing team's base with the help of auto-spawned grunts and defend your own base with the help of towers.

The two most popular games in the DOTA genre are Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends. Valve announced last year that they were working on their own version of the game, which they called DOTA 2. Some expect that game may get an outing at Germany's Gamescom next month. Our own Ultraviper also points out that Blizzard is working on their own Blizzard Dota.

Wow they managed to do a fair model for who bought the account in the past ( legacy ).. except early access hero facepalm.jpg

Btw make no sense that now you cant purchase a full account and you have to pay every game to play all modes and all heroes o.O

All pick, 15 heroes in rotation, I think they are trying to bring LoL players..

It's just too obvious how scared of Dota2 they are. Sad really.

I just hope Dota2 doesn't pull that kind of bullshit

Interesting news... So S2, couldn't handle the pressure? Maybe it's a smart move...

I mean think about it, now taht DOTA 2 will be out from Valve, the genre will attract a lot of "mainstream" gamers attention. That way you will have a good game (DOTA 2) that will (most probably) not be free to play and you'll have two other similar games that are free to play (HoN and LoL). It's a smart move if they feel that the straightforward comparison between their game and DOTA 2 will end up bad for them.

Interesting news... Let's see how this is going to affect HoN's player base and popularity

P.S: Yep, no need MeVe thnx. I am burnt out...

P.S #2: I merged the topics - sorry for any confusion caused.

where is my damn pitchfork, i need to impale some people.

on a serious note, I don't really like this personally. the new early hero system is utter crap in my opinion, i need to buy my heroes now? i feel like i have less arguments against LoL now(the only thing that stands is 'deny the creeps' ). i was hoping that those who had pre buyed the game would have something extra, but that idea was grinded to dust.

dissapointment all over this patch, so i'm somewhat losing my faith in S2, to me they are only making bad decisions (viewed from a personal standpoint).

IF i view it from a professional standpoint i could accept it, trying to compete with dota 2 would be insane (as i would rather had that they would have waited until they had some screen and vids from dota 2) so they picked the lesser from the 2 to compete, LoL.

I honestly don't know what is going to happen in the next days, so i will monitor the forums and determ if i should give up on hon and just move on to the next moba.

I'm going to give HoN a try. Only played it once in Beta with my friend's account using the Venomancer hero.

CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME A LINK TO ALL ITEMS AND HEROES (WITH SKILLS) in 2 continuous lists so that I can read offline?

This F2P shift is what turned me off HoN. It brought the introduction of the goblin shop, officially making $2 Games the devs (rather than S2).

They stopped focusing on gameplay and balance, shat out Heroes WAY too fast instead of taking their time to balance and rebalance the new Heroes with the old, allowed purchasable advantages (Early Access Heroes). Worst of all, NO EXTRA RANDOM GOLD T__T
