Dota-Two Community Video Project

Postby Jukeb0x » 07 Oct 2011, 18:43

The staff here at dota-two.com have decided that it would be fun to put together a project to involve the community surrounding the game and offer players a chance to have their voice heard. To that end, we've come up with the idea of a video compilation to promote the game we all love so much. Anyone can participate, and we'd really love to get as many people involved as possible, so go tell your friends and get recording! Instructions are below:

Record a video of yourself briefly answering the following questions, and upload the video to YouTube (preferably in as high a quality you can manage) then post a link to the video in this thread.

1. What is your online nickname and what country are you from?
2. How long have you been playing DotA or other Action-RTS games?
3. Why do you enjoy these games so much?
4. What is the best piece of advice you can give to new players to help them get better?

Your response must be in English and please try to keep your submissions short (20-30 seconds max). Once we recieve enough submissions we will announce a deadline and begin editing the entries into a long compilation shortly thereafter. Thanks for participating - don't forget to tell your friends - and happy recording!

Questions

Q: What if I don't have a camera or webcam?
A: We'd like to accomodate everyone, but this is a video compilation after all. Ask a friend (you can even record your answers together) or sneak an SD card into a video camera at your local camera shop ;)

Q: What if my camera/webcam is really bad?
A: As long as the audio is decent the video quality isn't all-important.

Q: Ongz BETA KEYZ??!!1!one1!one1!11eleven!one??1!?
A: No.

Theres no reason why I would upload it on youtube for you to download it, once I've recorded the video and encoded it into H.264/MPEG-4 AVC I will upload it on mediafire and give whoever is going to be doing the editing the link to the file.

The idea is fun, I think the only thing I have in my possession to record something is my dad's shitty camera. The quality isn't that good. I'm not sure I'll be able to record something useful.

What about webcams? Most laptops have them built-in these days.

Once I get back home I'll record mine.
If theres any others out there who have an HD camera or webcam know that instead of uploading the raw file which could be hundreds of MB large you can encode it and make it much smaller. Heres a tutorial that shows how to do it but you have to figure out how to separate the video stream from the audio one.

Come on people, don't be shy! We want to see and hear you all! Any crappy quality or not videos are welcomed and you never know, if we get this going, you might even see the Dota-Two.com team replying in the final video too!

It's all about the fun, spread it! :)
